Altered Pan Pastel Box Walk Through

Hi everyone, hope you are all safe in this horrendous weather we are having! I would like to say thank you to everyone for the wonderful comments and private messages I received from last weeks Create and Craft show, I truly do appreciate it so much. Wasn’t Kay great on the show! A pro as always with fabulous demonstrations and all the design team work was amazing!

Enough waffling from me, you want to get to the walk through!

Equipment:  Indigoblu snowflakes stamp, metal edged ruler, pencil, eraser, sharp knife, cutting mat, pan pastel box, perfect pearls, perfect pearls brush, perfect medium, fixative, acetate, stazon opaque ink, vintage photo distress ink, sponge, glue, gems.

Open out the pan pastels box flat and decide how large you would like the opening to be, I made mine 2cm in from each edge. If you are feeling brave you could do a design or a pattern instead of a straight edge. Draw lightly with a pencil and cut out your shape being careful that your knife is straight, if it is on an angle then your cut will not be straight on both sides of the box. Gently rub out any pencil lines.

Ink up the snowflake stamp with perfect medium and stamp all over the outside of the box, dust with perfect pearls, I stamped dusted then stamped then dusted. I used heirloom gold but you can use any colour or brand of mica powder you have. Did you know that you can rub out with an eraser perfect pearls at this stage? clean up any over lapping or mistakes or parts you don’t like and then spray with a fixative. I use an artist grade workable fixative but you can also use hairspray, the cheap kind that does not have a shine component. Please do the fixing stage outside or in a well ventilated area.

Take the vintage photo distress ink and sponge around all edges of the box, including the inside edge of the cut out part and let dry. Put the box back together and touch up where needed any missing areas.

Cut a piece of acetate to fit inside the lid of the box with enough edge so you can add glue. Take the snowflake stamp and stamp over the acetate with the stazon opaque ink. I used cotton white but you could use any other colour you wish. Allow to dry and adhere to the inside of the box lid so you have the pretty pattern showing on the outside, I used ATG tape but any good glue or tape will do the trick. jazz up the centre of the snowflakes with bling gem’s or you could use glitter glue or anything else you fancy!

Fill with goodies and make someone smile on Christmas morning.

You could also change the stamping to something more floral or steampunk it up and use it for an any occasion gift box. The cogs from the Take the Time plate would look really good, also the Floral swirl plate would look fabulous for a summer inspired box. Have a play, remember, if you use mica and not ink you can always rub it out if you don’t like it!

Have a great week

Clare
